💔 What does trauma look like?
💔 What does trauma look like?
It might look like…
A woman who always cuts the crusts off the brownies.
As a child, she was one of five kids.
Her mom made a pan of brownies and cut them into nine pieces — just enough for one each and a few extras.
But the coveted center piece? The one without edges?
She only got it once in a while.
And somehow, in her little girl heart, that meant:
“I’m not enough. They don’t love me as much.”
So as an adult?
When she baked brownies, she cut off every crust and threw them away…
So no one ever had to feel what she felt.
So everyone got “the best.”
But here’s the perspective shift:
I love the crust.
Many people do.
And this is what trauma looks like.
It’s not always what happened.
It’s what your nervous system felt in the moment — the story it wrote to protect you.
Trauma is personal.
What hurt you might not hurt someone else.
What feels safe to you might feel terrifying to another.
And that’s why healing isn’t one-size-fits-all.
That’s why compassion is key.
That’s why we must honor every story — even the ones wrapped in brownies.
🤍 You are not “too much.” You are not “too sensitive.”
You are responding exactly as your younger self needed to survive.
And now, you get to heal.
